Fantasy 2008 Summer Olympics: Rules

1. Each team will get to pick 6 countries for their team. The prize: unending respect and admiration, and maybe a free beverage or ice cream cone from each of the other participants at some point.

2. A live draft will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 at noon at a location TBD over lunch. Draft order will be determined by a random draw conducted by one of the Commissioners (Megan and Stephanie). For example, round 1 will go in order from 1-5, round 2 from 5-1, round 3 from 1-5, etc. Each player gets one pick per round until the teams are complete.

3. Due to the overwhelming number of medals won by some countries on a regular basis, we are removing the three winningest countries from the previous summer Olympics (specifically the United States, Russia, and China). At least 2 of the 6 countries must be selected from the bottom half of the list of medal winners from the previous summer Olympics (as determined by Wikipedia’s list of medal winners from the 2004 Summer Olympics).

5. The winner will be the player with the most points at the end of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Points will be assigned as follows: 3 points for a gold medal, 2 points for a silver medal, and 1 point for a bronze medal. Each player’s final score will be based on an aggregate score from his or her 8 athletes and 4 countries.

6. Medal counts will be updated by the Commissioners. Check the following website for regular updates. http://fantasyolympics2008.blogspot.com/
